Summer Hair Care Tips

Summer comes with hassle of excessive sun exposure leading to premature graying, UV exposure, sweat-related fungal infections. But worry not, nature has quipped us with the wherewithal to deal with it all. Here’s how:
Feed your hair! Make sure your diet is rich in omega 3 and fatty acids; think sih, nuts and seeds. If you eat a healthy and varied diet it will show in your hair. Be sure to keep hydrated; drink plenty of water to hydrate hair follicles.
Coat your hair in conditioner before you go for a swim; this will protect it from chlorine, keep it hydrated and your hair will be left soft and manageable when you wash it.
In dry heat, retaining moisture becomes a big problem. So, look for alternative heat-free looks, like tousled waves. Here’s how: French plait damp hair before bed, take out in the morning and finish with a spritz of salt spray and a quick run through with your fingers. Voila! A word of caution, do not dampen hair from roots; damp roots make hair weak.
Also, avoid using artificial products in your hair, especially if they contain alcohol as this dries your hair out. Invest in a good hair oil: Jojoba, coconut and almond are all brilliant ingredients for summer months. Or, if your hair already quite oily use a hair mask to nourish and moisturize your hair.
Cut split ends. Frequently trim your hair ends to prevent split ends from traveling up the hair. Schedule a trim every four to six weeks to maintain both your cut and the health of your hair.
Thankfully, this is the only season when we don’t have to think that much about dandruff!
